Piranha Cause Death and Destruction in Wellington

Uploaded on Flickr by lcrf
At Wellington’s Great India Restaurant today, 14 Piranhas died when the aquarium sprung a leak and dumped 1000 litres of water onto the restaurant floor.
Restaurateur Champaklal Tailor arrived to open up the restaurant yesterday to find it flooded and just one fish still clinging to life amid a heap of its dead family members.
Piranhas are found only in the Amazon basin, in the Orinoco, in rivers of the Guyanas, in the Paraguay-Paraná, and in the São Francisco River systems. Piranhas are normally about 15 to 25 cm long (6 to 10 inches), although reportedly individuals have been found up to 43 cm (18.0 inches) in length.

Piranhas are pretty ugly fish. My Uncle just went down to Peru and actually caught a Piranha though! I thought that was pretty legit.

“Yuck! It’s really unfortunate to hear the deaths of piranhas. I don’t know why the supervisors in the aquarium are this much careless in their monitoring activities? It’s their sole responsibility to supervise the leakages, cracks or other issues if it happens on the aquarium. Well, let them be serious in their work hereafter at least!
In my view piranhas are the innocent and colourful fishes and they are wonderful embellishments to any aquariums!”
