10 things why Podshow is lame
I don’t know if it is just me but Podshow website is lame. There I said it. I know we are supposed to fawn over everything Adam Curry does but this is just bad. Bad design, difficult to navigate and way too many ads greet the webuser on arrival at Podshow.com. I don’t understand how people get $8M and deliver serious bad websites. I think that they get the most expensive web designers you can find, who spend their days bilking lame companies like Columbia Records and MacDonalds and they get these cookie cutter websites that are supposed to look hip. Here’s a tip, you can buy this template from dreamweavertemplates.com for $50.
The site is way too clutter and dysfunctional. Podcasting is about building communities of interest from Airlines to Cooking. The site looks like it is designed by a talent less prepubescent Myspace junkie. If I wanted to look at Myspace content I will go to Myspace. It breaks all the rules of good website design. The color scheme is abrasive, the navigation stinks and the design is cluttered.
Here is a list of 10 things that are lame and obnoxious about Podshow:
- It looks like a bad record company. The layout is messy and the colors are off putting.
- There is way too many ads on the site and creates extensive clutter.
- The license to use the network is worldwide and exclusive. You have to give your rights to Podshow and cannot participate in other distribution channels. I would assume means Itunes among others. You also sign over your rights to the persona, an example would be Askaninja (they haven’t signed). This also means you have to give up any Creative Commons license you may use.
- The option to continue on the network is unilateral, that means they can drop you but you can’t drop them.
- Lame myspace type profiles. Who cares I want the Podcast, I am not interested in what some fat geek from Dogbutt Wyoming likes.
- Everything is “hot†or “killerâ€. I am not interested in hot or killer
- The galleries are really lame. I don’t get what this has to do with Podcasts !!!
- The channel structure is really lame. As far as I can see there are only 3 shows in each channel. I have no idea how to get more channels or more shows per channel
- The Podshow channel Guide is seriously crap. It looks like the program guide channel on Comcast. I didn’t use that either.
- The navigation on the site is the worst I have ever seen. I think they are doing the crap navigation to hide the fact that they do not have a lot of content.
- You have to sign up to download podcasts. It has to compete and complement Itunes at the same time. This is just lame.
I would have done more but this site just hacks me off.

[...] I have read and heard quite a few podcasters say that this is not a done thing. Some have pointed out that it might lead to an increase in traffic, while others are plain displeased with this practice. Here is Just a Kiwi Bloke’s take on the Podshow. Here are some more people who have penned their thoughts on Podshow’s launch: The Last Podcast, Geek News Central.com, Podcasting blog, Renaissance Man and many others. What is also a bit puzzling is there is no contact or email info from Podshow. At least, I could not find one. I guess folks could try sending email to a default email id like contact, info or sales@podshow.com. It would have been nice if the Podshow folks had at least sent some kind of an email, pingback, trackback or any kind of virtual handshake to the podcasters. Any kind of an acknowledgement sign from the Godfather of Podcast would have been a wonderful and nice gesture. [...]
Podshow Plus
Last week on the 4th of july Podshow Plus went open beta. I was already part of the beta, got a golden ticket to access it through their devcast. And I only logged in twice. It’s layout and how things work is very cumbersome. They implemented som…
Yea, Podshow sucks. Why would I want to use it over what other sites offer?
