Geoff Murphy’s Goodbye Pork Pie Re-enacted
Director Geoff Murphy’s (Young Guns II, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory,The Quiet Earth) claim to fame was the New Zealand cult classic Goodbye Pork Pie. Made in 1986 this movie is about a young guy desperate to reunite with this wife steals a yellow Mini car and proceeds to travel from one end of New Zealand to the other. Their high speed exploits earn them the name “the Blondini gang”. The police, however take a dim view of this and make it their mission in life to stop the Blondini boys from reaching their destination which results in a classic road movie.
Breakfast TV talks to a pair of Mini aficionados about their quest to replicate the famous trek from the iconic Goodbye Pork Pie their love for the car, and the rally itself.
You can see a clip of the movie here. The scenes are from in and around Wellington city.

A great movie as you say. It is definitely verging on the cult status. I can highly recommend it to anyone who has not yet seen it.

A great film and filmed in a great location. Wellington city is on my wish list of places to see. I hope to get there this November if funds permit.
