New Zealand Restores Honour System (Video)

New Zealand has returned to using titular honours rather than investitures that were introduced in 1996. This means the return of the titles of Knight and Dame Grand Companion (GNZM) and Knight and Dame Companion (KNZM/DNZM).
This has resulted in 72 people gaining the title of Sir or Dame including medium distance runner Sir Peter Snell, All Black Colin Mead and former Prime Minister Dame Jenny Shipley.

If I was offered the chance to become a ‘Sir’, I’d take them up on it for sure. Most of the people on this list are really special, although it does seem to get easier to earn these titles nowadays – you should be recognised for giving truly special services towards the country.

titular honors is quite popular in my country too, Malaysia. It is easier to get even the unfamous singer

As a german i think that titular honours are a little bit weired, i would not feel comfortable with this kind of titles.

Saying “knight” and “dame” is a gesture of respect. They must be worthy of the title.
Good decision to go back to the past. We should all hold on to our traditions, this makes the world more diversified and beautiful

Hi, We don’t bestwo titles in the U.S., but many people here scramble to get some kind of recognition, even if it’s notoriety. The president does hand out medals to worthies (Medal of Freedom), but not titles.
I’ve always been a big fan of Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant, but even so it seemed a bit odd to see him suited up with a CBE medal. He has contributed a great deal to his country and the world through his music.

This makes the world more diversified and beautiful. Too bad I live in Canada and we don’t have these kind of titles here. We used too though, when the British was here.

I think that titles are a really cool perk – I would like one myself. I suppose over here in the states lots of people go by their titles in their professions. For example, people putting initials after their names on business cards, etc. However, I would still like to be called Sir
