Watching Kiwi Windscreen Washers (Video)

During summer there is an unusual tradition and that is random windscreen washing. This is where people, armed with washing equipment, launch themselves onto stopped cars at intersections. After completing their work, they then ask for a “donation” for their work. Most people pay, and yep it is a form of panhandling. This reminds me of the time I had my boatshoes cleaned against my will in Istanbul. TVNZ Breakfast team riffs about windscreen washers at intersections.

Hilarious. People used to freelance window washing around here (Kansas City) sometimes in summer. It was big in New York for a while. You’d learn to avoid certain intersections. I know exactly the feeling: Don’t pick me!
