Breaking the Video Frontier
I have just purchased a Canon XL1S Video Camera and I intend to put it to good use. Getting broadcast quality video on a budget of $5000 is difficult but not impossible so I thought I would share with everyone a series of posts on how I got my rig going for corporate and video blogging work.
Choosing what system to go with is based upon experience and what you want to achieve. I have already invested substantially in Canon Digital Camera gear especially lenses (EF and EFS) as well as flashes, tripod (Manfrotto) I was looking for some over lap with this. Which basically means the Canon XL series Professional camcorders. The Canon system means that the accessories that you purchase for the XL1S can be used in the XL2 and HD products including the lenses, lighting and audio system. Secondly Canon fully supports the DV Firewire standard for computer connectivity which is built into each Mac computer, my choice for Non Linear Editing (NLE). All the Canon products work out of the box with Mac equipment without the need for loading drivers
A rule of thumb is that you will spend an equal amount on accessories as you will for the camera itself as not only is the camera important, but lighting and audio are just as important. I will post in a series on the camera and the setup I built.
